When we decided that we wanted to raise beef cows, we looked into different breeds and options. A chef friend recommended the Red Devon breed, and after some research we decided this was the breed for us.
The Devon breed are among the oldest breed of cattle in the world and records indicate the first American Red Devons were shipped from England to New England on a ship called the Charity in 1623 - one bull and three heifers. The rest is history!
The Red Devon meat is known for it's high quality performance on grass and produce really high quality beef. Reddevonusa.com says, "Devons are recognized world wide for producing some of the finest beef off pasture alone."
Our cows are grass-fed and grass-finished. In spring, summer and autumn they eat nutrient rich hay. The facility we use to procoess our cows is USDA inspected and has a great reputation amongst other farmers who raise beef cows.
